WatThe? L: High Up in the Death Zone

by David Nigel Lloyd

about

The Who Sings My Generation meets Myrhh by Robin Williamson, this is the first of two albums begun 45 years ago by Wat Rock Records in Los Angeles. It contains DNL's earliest songs — the first songs that seemed worth singing. Of course, the guitars needed to be much louder then; the drums needed to be worthy of Keith Moon; the bass needed to be the best of LA's new wave. But essentially it is the same voice heard 50 years later in his solo acoustic album, Of Service in Rosemary Lane.

Janet, I Love Thee [All songs by DNL except where noted]
Quiet Days in Willowdale
WatThe? L is Going On
The Streets of Toronto
London / Proverbs of Hell [William Blake / DNL]
Honeymoon in Mystery Town
Why Have You Forsaken Me?
Creature from the Haunted Zoo [Wilson / DNL]
I Leapt Up [Daniel Wilson]
Machine Gun Danny (4:00)
Old Rockers Never Die
Blood & Ink, Inc.

Death in Los Fumos [1996] blended song poetry, skits and found sound while How Like Ghosts Are We [1998] returned to traditional music. Rivers, Kings and Curses featured blues legend Nat Dove and the Incredible String Band’s Robin Williamson. ... more
